The Food and Nutrition Board, a statutory body of the Government of India decided to promote a balanced diet and nutrition through a celebration among the citizens of the nations.
The National Nutrition Week was started in the year 1982 by the Food and Nutrition Board with an aim to increase awareness and the importance of nutrition in India. The board decided to celebrate National Nutrition Week in the first week of September. For nearly four decades, National Nutrition Week has worked to make people aware of their health and nutrition in various ways.

Why do we need National Nutrition Week?
The problem of malnutrition among the children of India is very common and perhaps so much that it has created a problem for the nation. The most obvious among them is the 'protein' deficiency. Although this problem is widespread across India, it is mostly found in the rural parts of the country. Most of the slum children suffer from this.
